University of Windsor coach Chris Oliver has three commitments for next year in 5'10" point guard Ellis Ffrench from Horton H. S. in Nova Scotia, bookend 6'6" Division I transfers Andre Smith from Central Michigan and Matt Day, who played briefly at North Carolina Asheville. Look for them to also add St. Catherine's Holy Cross forward Steve Priolo soon to the mix. Windsor and Carleton have the best recruiting classes in Ontario in the early spring by a wide margin. Pickering H. S. grads Juevol Myles, Dwayne Smith and Justin Wiltshire will all write their SAT's for a second time this month to try and qualify through the NCAA clearing house. Myles and Wiltshire have interest from schools in the United states and their recruitment will probably drag on into the summer. Smith on the other hand has already verbally committed to Division I George Washington University. Markham H. S. forward Adam Folker recently visited McMaster University in Canada and U Cal Irvine in California, USA. He is arranging a visit to U Cal Davis in early May. Adam tells me he would prefer to play south of the border in a warm weather state. Mississauga point guard David Tyndale has interest from New Hampshire and Boston University. The York University Lions continue to pursue him in Canada.Grimsby H. S. blue chip forward Cam Michaud 6'7" has committed to McMaster University who will also lock up Parkside guard Jordan Tew 6'1", who is the best prospect in the Hamilton Public school league. Newmarket Sacred Heart swing man Scott Laws has committed to the McMaster Marauder program. Laws is one of the best forwards in the province and was a selection to my All-Academic team. Tshing Kasamba, Niagara Region's Mr. Basketball has an offer on the table from Ashland University in Ohio. He may be holding out for a Division I offer this spring however. Hamilton's ACMT guard Kenan Etale's commitment to Houghton College may be tenuous right now because of money issues which have yet to be worked out with the Houghton basketball coaching staff. If this scholarship opportunity falls through it may open the door for the McMaster Marauders to steal him at the last minute. The Laurier Golden Hawks have commitments from Guelph Centennial centre Evan Schwartz, St. Catherine point guard Travis Berry, 5'10" Welland guard Jordan Hadju and Burlington forward Sharif Wanas, who has apparently reneged on his original commitment to the McMaster Marauders. Burlington Assumption H. S. guard Malik Diaz has committed to the York Lions for next year. Yours in basketball, Jim Thomas
