McMASTER MEN'S BASKETBALL ADDS TWO FOR 2010 E-mail
Written by Cameron Dunlop (McMaster University Athletics & Recreation) on Wednesday, 01 September 2010

Hamilton Ont. - The McMaster University men's basketball program is pleased to announce that two outstanding student athletes have committed to attend McMaster. Kenan Etale (Hamilton, ON) and Scott Brittain (Oakville, ON) have each committed to play for the maroon in 2010-2011.

A 2008 graduate of Hamilton's Académie Catholique Mère-Teresa (ACMT), Kenan Etale will enrol at McMaster this fall and is an exciting addition to the Marauder men's basketball team. Kenan completed a decorated high school career at ACMT that included back-to-back OFSAA Single-A provincial championships, while twice being named to the Hamilton Separate School All-Star team. Additionally, he was a two-time team MVP and was recognized as the Jaguars Top Defensive Player in each of his last two seasons. After high school, Etale accepted an athletic scholarship to attend Houghton College, a NAIA institution located in Houghton, New York. During his freshman year, Kenan started in eight of Houghton's first nine games, averaging 9.8-PPG, before his season was interrupted. Opting not to return to Houghton after his first year, Kenan sat out the 2009-10 campaign and is eligible to play immediately for the Marauders.

First-year Head Coach Amos Connolly is ready to get going and is happy that Kenan is on-board. "Kenan is a dynamic athlete with an intensity level that suits our style of play. He can defend a number of positions on the floor and his ability to attack the rim brings another look to our offence. We are excited to welcome Kenan to the McMaster family."

Capable of playing either guard spot, Kenan will bring some maturity, experience, and athleticism to the McMaster line-up and will be expected to challenge for playing time right away.

Oakville native Brittain comes to McMaster after completing a solid NCAA career at Boston University of the America East conference. Brittain went to Boston after a stellar high school career at Iroquois Ridge Secondary School, where he was a two-time team MVP. As a high school athlete, he also represented Ontario and led the provincial team to three Gold Medals at the U-15 and U-17 Boys National Championships.

Joining Boston University as an impact recruit in 2006, Brittain started 74 of 86 games during his first three years, averaging 8.4-PPG and 5.9-RPG over his career. He sat out last year as a medical redshirt. Having completed his degree at Boston, Brittain has enrolled at McMaster's DeGroote School of Business in the MBA program, with medical clearance to resume his playing career and two years of CIS playing eligibility.

Twice a member of Canada's Junior National Team, Brittain served as the team captain for the 2007 FIBA U-19 World Championship tournament held in Turkey.

At 6-foot-9, Brittain will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact in the post for the Marauders, and Coach Amos Connolly is excited about his decision to wear maroon this fall. "Scott helps us in a number of ways as he brings a maturity and understanding of the intensity needed to perform at the highest level, while also taking on a mentor role for our younger players, specifically, Taylor Black. Scott has All-Canadian potential will be called upon immediately to take on a major role at both ends of the court."
