Head coach Thomas Cory and the Algoma University Thunderbirds men’s basketball program are very proud to announce the signing a highly touted point guard, Reynaldo Carnakie. The 6'3 175 lbs Point guard from Scarborough , Ont., will take to the court for Thunderbirds starting this fall.

“I felt comfortable with Algoma University because they are a talented team on the rise with great coaches and I think we (Algoma University) can be a powerhouse program,” said Carnakie. “I was impressed with the guys on the roster and with the support of all the staff at Algoma University. They made me feel welcome and wanted,” commented Carnakie.

Carnakie is a very good scorer but he feels that he can make a larger impact with his playmaking and passing abilities. “I think I can help get some of our Post players easy buckets and find the open man in transition. I am willing to do whatever is asked of me as a player on and off the floor.<\p>

And that is exactly what coach Cory is expecting from his newly acquired point guard: “His ability to be break guys down off the dribble and make players better around him is extremely important with the style we will be playing this upcoming season. Last season we had to battle for every basket and with the addition of Reynaldo he will be able to create for us at either of the guard spots and get us some easy baskets for his teammates.

“We’re extremely excited,” said Cory, “Reynaldo was a guy we started recruiting over the last month and haven’t let up for one second. This past week he was up in Sault Ste. Marie on a visit and he confirmed everything with us. Reynaldo is a player who wants to continue to improve on every aspect of his game and has a thirst to become one of our top students in the classroom and on the floor.

Furthermore, Carnakie is very excited about the Community Economic & Social Development (CESD) program he will be studying in the fall.
