Written by Off The Wire on Wednesday, 05 January 2011 The 40th Silver Fox Invitational Senior Boys Basketball tournament is set to go in Hamilton, Ontario on Friday January 14th and Saturday January 15th. The long standing high profile and high caliber tournament will see 20 teams vying for the tournament crown. Games will be played at Barton Secondary School, Cardinal Newman Catholic Secondary School, Glendale Secondary School and Saltfleet District High School. Of the 20 entries, Anderson Collegiate Institute of Whitby has been tabbed as the top seed. The Raiders earned the title at the University of Windsor tournament just before the holidays and have only lost two contests thus far. At the 2010 Fox, the Raiders finished fourth as the runner up in the Ken Ormerod Final to this year's number two seed, the St. Ignatius of Loyola Hawks from Oakville. The Hawks have played in six tournaments thus far and have earned championships at the Court Heinbuch in Kitchener and the Purple and White at the University of Western Ontario over the holiday break. The Father Henry Carr Crusaders of Etobicoke are the number three seed and the defending champion Oakwood Collegiate Barons of Toronto are the number four seed. The Barons will be looking to add to their tournament resume with an eighth title and twelfth appearance in the final, which are both tournament bests. Other entries for the 2011 event include; Dr. John M. Dension Newmarket, St. Thomas More of Hamilton, Holy Names of Windsor, Fletchers' Meadow of Brampton, St. Theresa of Midland, St. Francis of St. Catharines, Bluevale Collegiate of Waterloo, Northern CI & VS of Sarnia, South Delta from Vancouver BC, Cardinal Newman of Stoney Creek, Notre Dame of Burlington, Saltfleet DHS of Stoney Creek, Hillcrest of Ottawa, Westmount from Hamilton, Ascension of Our Lord from Mississauga and Glendale of Hamilton. Games commence at 9:00 a.m. on the Friday morning at the four sites and action on Friday concludes with the Championship quarter finals at Glendale and Saltfleet. These games tip at 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. respectively. As this is the 40th edition of the tournament, there will be a social for all current and past participants at Vicar's Vice Pub which is located at 2251 Rymal Road in Stoney Creek (near the corner of Rymal and Upper Centennial Parkway or old highways 53 and 20)commencing at 8:30 p.m. Action resumes the following morning at 9:00 a.m. at the four sites. The Championship semi finals will be played at Glendale and Saltfleet on Saturday afternoon at 12:30. The various flight finals will commence at 2:00 p.m. and will culminate with the grand finale at Saltfleet with a 7:00 p.m. tip off time.
