So much for the reports that he was going to MAC....That is a huge pick-up for Guelph - much needed with the loss of Nick....It's good to see him follow his family roots and play for the same program as his Dad....Now Guelph needs to add a player with some size that can come in and play right away - they lose Milne....Heslip will be able to step and in play right away for Guelph - I'm sure that is one of the reason why he chose to go there....There were talks that Guelph was very close to getting a committment from a big out of the London area - might be John Brutto from STA - correct me if I'm wrong but he is coached by Taylor Brown who played for O'Rourke at Guelph....

I think Jim Thomas did in his latetst report....This is from the report...

An announcement hasn't been made yet but it appears the McMaster Marauders have locked up shooting guard Brady Heslip 6'1" from Burlington Nelson H.S. Heslip and McMaster coach Joe Raso's son Victor, are best friends and want to play on the same team. Heslip is considered one of the best pure shooters in the country.

wojo, I hear McIntosh is still thinking Carleton or St. FX before Lakehead. Thomson's going to Lakehead for sure. Angus is definitely heading to Western. Why can't Carter play the SG? What are his weaknesses? I'm hearimng Reis may start or get big minutes at Brock, he does need to get in shape and fast. I thought he had a decent season this year according to CHS website. With Guelph signing Heslip, Boyce would be a great catch for Guelph and really compliment Heslips game, IMO he is much better then Petrella, could be exactly what they need. York & U of T would be nice fits. Ottawa is suspect because he is not their usual style of guard, IMO Ottawa would be a much better team with a true PG.

Any word on Christie going to Mac?

I will be shocked if McIntosh goes to X....He went there for a visit and didn't enjoy himself - 2 out of his 3 high school coaches at St.Pats (Tina and Deion) played at X and the other coach (Matt) played at Lakehead....As for X, I would say they are out of the picture and it came down to Carleton and Lakehead....Aside from hearing it from Anthony, he is a Lakehead committ....

People knock on Thomson, but he will be a valuable assest to any program - I know Lakehead has been on him for some time now....

Carter cannot shoot the ball well and is a pass first, creator type of guard....He is not a scoring guard at all....I don't see how Boyce and carter could play together, but I could see Harvey and Carter....

If Reis starts for Brock I- good for him - but I don't see it happening - I don't think he is ready for those type of minutes IMO....I see him playing a little as a freshman but not starting....

If Boyce chooses Guelph that is 2 guards they will have for the future....Anyone who gets Boyce is going to be very lucky IMO....He is a great kid, who works his tail off, there is going to be no concern about his academics and once he gets a consistant shot, he will be very good....He is better than Patrella....Ottawa was top 5 all year with Gibson-Bascome and then they added the kid from Syracuse....I just don't see him at Ottawa - I see him more at York or Toronto...Even Guelph is a much better fit...

Haven't heard anything about Chrisite but I would bet he is all but on his way to MAC IMO....Is he going to play football and basketball?....Christie is a monster and if he can get his attitude right, he could be one of the best bigs in the CIS by the end of his career....

According to Barry Hayes and Hoopstars Matt Howlett, Burlington Assumption and John Brutto, London STA, have committed to University of Guelph

Looks like Guelphs' recruiting class is shaping up very nicely for them....If they somehow get Boyce that could be a real steal for O'Rourke this late in the game considering they haven't really recruited him that hard throughout the year....If Boyce wants Med-School,I'm not sure if Guelph is the ideal spot for his under-grad....Not knocking on their academics, it's just that there are other schools on his list that may be a little better suited (i.e Toronto,York).

Guelph has done well, but it's likely to be 2-3 years and at least one more very good recruiting class before they can challenge for league honours.

The Guelph Mercury article indicates that Brady has been promised a starter's role, so it looks like playing time won out over a chance to win sooner at Mac or Calgary. He will do well at Guelph, and I hope he can cope with being part of a rebuilding effort.

Guelph isn't a total scrap they lose Milne n Panks but they still have 2 of the best shooters in the country in Moscatelli and Mott so they still have some pieces. Should make top 6, but won't compete near top for a couple of years. Brady is a great HS shooter but it is still going to take him sometime to adjust to the University game, he will have his ups and down in first he will need get used to playing a more physical game which they definetely play at Guelph. It takes time for some of these guys to adjust, remember everyone thought Vernon was gonna be a big time scorer comin out of HS 2 years in and it hasn't happened yet, Brady might have a great year and be CIS ROY (cuz he has that type of talent) but it also might take Heslip some time.

I geuss since Mac didn't get Heslip they are on to the other great HS shooter in Ontario, Taylor Allan from SJAM in Waterloo, bigger and more athletic then Brady and might shoot the ball just as well, I heard Laurier has him wrapped up but that Mac is trying to get into the picture.

I wouldn't annoint Heslip as the CIS ROY yet - we haven't even seen him play a CIS game....No question that Guelph is going to be a little down next year....They don't have a solid PG, they lose their 2 best players in Milne and Panks....Moscatelli is very solid but he is not going to be the player Guelph anticipated he was going to be after the 2 knee injuries (too bad cause he was really good before that)....Mott basically played on 1/2 a leg all year and looked like a men's league player - no disprespect to him, but he was hurt and couldn't perform up to his potential....I'm not sure if he is even back next year...Guelph is going to be young with minimal experience....Heslip is going to get all the minutes in the world there....

From what I undertand is that Taylor Allan has been a Laurier 'lean' for quite some time now....Campbell has been on him really hard for a while....Unless MAC has been in contact with him throughout the year, it's tough to just jump in late in the game and grab a recuit away from someone - especially in their own backyard....
