No doubt NP is a great team. I expect them to walk through CWOSSA and medal for sure this year. Anything less will be a disappointment

SENIOR BOYS BASKETBALL FINAL

Trojans win first title in 12 years

It's been a long time.
After over a decade of almosts and could have beens, the North Park Collegiate Trojans 48-42 win over the St. John's College Green Eagles Thursday gave the school its first senior boys' basketball title in 12 years.
"We've been the bridesmaid quite a few times the last 12 years," Trojans coach Todd Andrew said. "It's nice to finally bring that championship back to the school."
After a sloppy win over the Green Eagles Tuesday in Game 1 of the best-of-three series, the Trojans played with much more fire despite a gritty effort by their hosts.
"It's hard to win this title," Andrew said. "No matter what team it is, or how many wins they've had during the season, winning the city title is tough to do. I totally expected them to come out and make it hard for us."
And the Green Eagles made the Trojans earn the city title, keeping the score within five, until the third quarter when Mark Dickens took over, scoring 12 of his game-high 24 points, nine of which were from behind the three-point arc. But `he Green Eagles kept
pressing bouncing back from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to get within reach of upsetting the Trojans.
Dave Eves scored 11 points, while Cale McDonald pitched in with seven points, Tyler Johnston had five and Marcus Hamilton added one.
Joe Dalia led the Green Eagles, scoring 15 points, while Matt Digout and J.R. Gallarza had eight each. Brett Burleigh scored six, while Shawn Hill and Matt Kusinerz netted two each.
"It feels so good to finally win this," Dickens said. "We've been wanting this for a long time."
Eves said coming close to winning the city title a number of times made Thursday's lifting of the BCSSAA championship trophy that much sweeter.
"A couple of us have been playing together for five years now," Eves said. `And to finally win it together makes it all worth it."
Next up for the Trojans is the CWOSSA AAA championships in Preston, hosted by KCI.
"We want to go there and win," Eves said. "We've never been-to OFSAA and we really want to get there. We set two major goals at the start of the year and we accomplished one and now it's time for the other."
While the Trojans are off to
Preston, the Green Eagles will go to the CWOSSA AAAA championships in Kitchener.
"If we play like this I think we have a shot at getting to OFSAA," Green Eagles coach Nick Esposito said. "We never gave up tonight and I'm proud of them for that. We need to continue that next weekend."
